Involvement Opportunities for Adults

You can help to surround the Ojai Valley’s young people with positive after-school
opportunities and caring adults so they can reach their full potential.
Be a mentor for a day:
Do you have a skill or interest to share with a group of youth? We have two after-school
programs that involve adults for an afternoon in a fun, interesting activity of their choice.
S.T.A.R. Club involves girls on Wednesdays at the Matilija Jr. High Cafeteria. After an
hour of yoga, they enjoy learning about different activities and interests from women of
our community. The Oak View Teen Center has a group of teens who love to meet new
people and find ways they can contribute to their community and the world.
Help us hold parent gatherings:
It is so beneficial when parents come together to talk about how to support their
children. The Youth Foundation offers parent programs on “The Developmental Assets,”
how to prevent youth substance abuse, as well as orientations about our many
opportunities for teens. Host a gathering, or help invite parents to one that we plan.
Be a youth employer:
Call our Youth Employment Service, 646-4YES, to hire a young
person for your residence, landscape or business!
Join our Program Committee:
If you enjoy thinking about youth programs – our current ones, or new ones – you are
welcome to join our Program Committee. This meets about every six weeks at the Ojai
Police Station, and consists of a group of youth and adults.
Support us in our office:
We rely on office volunteers to answer our phones and help with mailings in a friendly
and lively atmosphere.
Pitch in at a special event:
Event enthusiasts are welcome to help us plan our annual Tennis Marathon (held in
October) and Golf Tournament (in May). These major fundraisers combine a good time
with some serious support for the youth of Ojai.
Join our Guild:
The OVYF’s Guild is a lively group of women and men who come together for interesting
programs and projects that support our youth, while getting to know each other and
having a good time. The mission of the Guild is “to promote, enrich, and support the
well-being of our youth and community in partnership with the Ojai Valley Youth
Foundation.”
If you are interested in any of these opportunities and wish to talk about them in
more detail, we welcome your call. Please contact Cindy Jones at 640-9555, or cindy@ovyf.org.
