Tuesdays: Taco Tuesday’s at the Moose Lodge in Oak View:
Our bi-weekly Tuesday fundraiser is an opportunity for 12-18 yr olds to learn how to work in a kitchen. The training ranges from knife skills, health code requirements, operate a cash register, and finally customer service. The proceeds are split between the Moose Lodge and Teen Center to support after-school programs. It is such a valuable experience for kids to serve their community and expand their knowledge of working in a kitchen.
Our other Tuesday program is yoga:
with a local volunteer, Kate Riley. She teaches a free 1 hr program for teens at the Park and Resource Center.
Wednesday’s are Documentary Days:
where teens come and watch a documentary or movie that speaks to issues they are dealing with. The films we pick are relevant to their personal experiences and give us a platform to provide support as mentors. They range from Freedom Writers to Crash to smaller independent films. Once a month we will have a guest speaker come and lead a workshop on what they do professionally. This month was a canine unit who spoke about being a deputy and how dogs are trained in the police force. He did a demonstration for 30 kids at the Teen Center accompanied by his german shepherd and 2 other officers.
Thursday’s are Dodgeball Tournaments at the Oak View Community Center:
All of our equipment was purchased with the money we have made at Taco Tuesday. We have a new set of 10 dodgeballs with referee jerseys and whistles. From 3:30-6pm we play dodgeball games that are open to ages 12-18. It’s such a blast and a great workout. All families and friends are welcome!
